The first 100 grants were awarded to Ukrainian students and researchers

The Ministry of Education has awarded the first 100 scholarships to students and scientists from its Ukraine special program. According to one broadcast they get 715 euros per person and a month. A total of 500 so-called Ernst Mac grants will be provided.

“Through our swift and bureaucratic action, we support Ukrainian scientists and students who studied in Austria before the war or had to flee because of the war and now have difficulty continuing their studies,” said Education Minister Martin Polashek (ÖVP) in a statement. Ukrainians do not currently pay tuition fees at Austrian universities.

There are about 2,700 Ukrainian students in Austria in the current summer semester. Which is about 600 or 30 percent more than the same period last year. The University of Vienna and the University of Salzburg have recorded the highest growth. Scholarships are advertised by the national organization OeAD for Education and Internationalization.
